Global carrier billing revenue will reach more than $24.7bn by 2019

Neomobile presents a new OVUM report, confirming the growth potential of the carrier billing market

Rome, April 21st 2015 – Neomobile, a global leader in mobile commerce for digital goods, has commissioned a report by Ovum, a leading global technology research and advisory firm, entitled ‘Carrier Billing: Global Market Trends and Forecasts’, which describes the evolution of the carrier billing market and forecasts its potential future size.

Ovum defines carrier billing as a technology that enables mobile users to make payments to third parties through their monthly phone bill or prepaid credit, and covers direct operator billing, PSMS, and WAP/Web billing.

The report gives an overview of the carrier billing market from its inception, gives a detailed description of the market’s dynamics and geographic highlights, and provides forecasts as to the future growth potential of the market. It takes a close look at direct operator billing – a direct link between third parties and an operator’s billing system – and the role of aggregators such as Neomobile.

Neomobile supported the creation of this report, which forecasts that global carrier billing revenue will increase from $14.5bn in 2014 to $24.7bn in 2019.

The report also reveals that although the OS app stores will represent the biggest slice of carrier billing revenues by 2019, they only accounted for 14% in 2014. Segments such as online games, social media companies, independent stores and mobile content together make up the bulk of the market currently, and this is where Neomobile’s business is focused.

Gianluca D’Agostino, Chief Executive of Neomobile, said:

“I am pleased to announce our collaboration with Ovum on this report, which contains an encouraging growth forecast for global carrier billing revenue. Neomobile fundamentally believes in the value of carrier billing as a means to monetize the mobile internet, and is ideally placed to take advantage of growth in this exciting and lucrative market.”
